Recently the First Lady Michelle Obama sat down with ABC News’ David Muir on her South Africa visit to talk about watching her daughters become women, and in the process she gave some great dating advice.

Michelle: “I look at them in the same way and think, wow, you guys have grown up, and you’re so poised, and you’re so sweet. So there’s that motherly side of me. But it’s still always a balance between protecting them, but giving them experiences to travel.” And when shown a clip of her youngest reading The Cat in the Hat on Wednesday, she remarked, “Yeah, Sasha’s got a little flavor.”

And then she gave her Love Dating Advice:

• Muir: What advice will you give to your girls when they fall in love?
• Michelle: Choose people who will lift you up. Find people who will make you better.
• Muir: You said the president has made you better.
• Michelle: Yes. I haven’t told him that so now it’s on the record, so he’s going to bring that up whenever I’m mad at him.

Ophiuchus Coming Soon?

Over the past few weeks the Astrology community has been shaken up, and many are a bit freaked out about recent news that there has been a major change in the planets and Astrology signs may be mixed up.

The conjecture is based around the idea that the change or shift may have caused Capricorns to be Aries or even Cancers to be Virgos and so on. On top of this, a new Astrology sign, Ophiuchus, has been thrown in the mix.

You may ask yourself what is going on?

According to houstonpress.com, Houston Astrologer Figgy Jones has studied the matter and talked to colleagues and offers five reasons not to get worried about the upcoming Astrological changes.

The concept of the heavens, and therefore astrological signs, shifting over time and squeezing in a “new” constellation which would probably push you back to the sign before yours. (i.e., Stoic, grimly determined Capricorns? You’re now, according to this hocus-pocus, Sagittarians full of the dreaded optimism.) But fear not.

Reason 5: No one can pronounce the name of the new sign, Ophiuchus, without sounding like Sylvester, the Looney Tunes cat with a lisp, attempting the fine art of cussing.
Reason 4: Sylvester is not the only one with his own brand, as it were. Astrology is all about symbols: the word itself (astro + logos) means “language of the stars” and we don’t mean points they demand up front for every movie. Unless you were born in a cave – and of course, we know only Scorpios enter the world that way — each astrological sign is represented by a symbol. Aries = the ram; Taurus = the bull; Cancer = the crab, and so on. What the hell is this so-called newest astrological sign, anyway?

“I haven’t seen a symbol,” said local astrology teacher Marva Mason, who also hosts metaphysical fairs each month. “I haven’t seen anything on it. This whole thing is bogus.”

Reason 3: Investigative reporter and astrologer Eric Francis writes on his wildly popular website, www.planetwaves.net, that “As for Ophiuchus …this is an old hoax. Historically, Ophiuchus has never been listed as a constellation in the sidereal zodiac.” He explains that “most Western astrologers use the tropical zodiac. They have different purposes, and different philosophies. Both zodiacs work.”

In his January 14 column, Francis reminds us that the Ophiuchus hubhub began a number of years ago, as its so-called creator, a sci-fi author and satirist named John Sladek, died in 2000.

“Sladek liked to prank astrology,” Francis wrote, “and he has a whole novel about a fictitious 13th sign based on Ophiuchus he called Arachne that was “suppressed by the scientific community.”

The Ophiuchus hoax, he writes, “first made its rounds in the late 1990s and pops up again like those e-mails from the guy in Nigeria who wants you to send him your bank account number so he can transfer $15 million your way.”

To “pay back” the astronomer who recently reopened the whole controversy last week, Francis wrote, “I wish I could put out a press release announcing that the world is flat, and send astronomers scrambling — to return the favor for when an astronomer sends out a press release announcing that your zodiac sign is wrong.”

The hoax went viral and became No. 1 on a couple search engines, said Kevin Casey, of Body, Mind & Soul, a metaphysical shop in Houston. “We got so many calls from people who wanted to know, ‘What sign am I now?’”

Reason 2: To the delight of astrologers everywhere, the guy who started the movement to defrock Pluto as a planet – who had the cojones to author a book titled How I Killed Pluto — has himself been defrocked, in a recent edition of The New York Times Book Review, anyway.

Professional astrologer Mason sneers at that whole debacle: “Anybody who’s ever had a Pluto transit (where Pluto touches something significant in the person’s birthchart), just ask them if Pluto’s a planet.”

“There’s always been a war between astrologers and astronomers,” Mason said. Astronomers won the battle, re: Pluto. This latest rehash of a stale and manufactured controversy? “Chalk it up to something else astronomers are trying to shove down our throats.”

Mason, who has devoted her life to practicing and teaching the metaphysical arts, would herself lose her cherished status as a philosophical Sagittarius to become the unthinkable: an Ophiuchus. “I would change into that one I can’t even pronounce,” she said, disgusted. “I’m not giving into it.”

Reason 1: And the Number One reason you don’t need to concern yourself with Ophiuchus: The sign of Scorpio would govern only six days of the year, Nov. 23-29. Most Scorpios would become (to their minds, anyway) feckless Libras. Sure, we’re trading in stereotypes here, but it needs to be said: No one with any sense wants to piss off a Scorpio.

Obviously there was tension between those two, but Allison should have kept that reading private. Then for Allison to state she knows when Kyle would DIE!! C’mon! There are certainly feelings that a psychic/medium would be aware of if someone were sick or certain points where bad things can happen, but there is no way you can confirm an absolute “death” for someone. That made me sick. That’s like saying “move over Jesus, Allison has arrived”.
There have been many clients that have come through my door worried that they only had a few months to live because some psychic medium said so! I suppose that could be true if the psychic was trying to scare the client to death. Irresponsible!

Allison made a big deal about “having a girl’s night,” and not working, even though Lisa Vanderpump wanted to see a few of Allison’s party tricks, but tried to lure us all in by explaining that she’s been on Oprah and that people can’t get enough of her once they taste her. I guess someone forgot to check their ego at the door, or perhaps it went flying out the window while swigging cocktails like they were water. This is how Psychics and Mediums get a bad reputation. Just because you see an advert in a magazine or online that says someone has been a successful psychic for twenty years and they can help you, this does not necessarily mean they are the real deal. Don’t Believe Their Hype.

Mistake 1: Most Expensive Does Not = Best

I’ve seen ads where psychics say they’ve read for Presidents and charge $300 for 20 minutes and yet their ability does not reflect their financial rate. The most expensive psychics are not always the best.

Mistake 2: Preying on Vulnerable People

Having done over 1,000 psychic readings, Approximately 80% of my clients are going through some type of challenge. The other 20% are looking to deepen their relationships, create more success and deepen spiritual awareness.

When people are vulnerable, they can be desperate for answers and will go to any psychic to alleviate their pain. I have heard of situations where the person has left the reading more distraught than when they arrived for their session.

We use our eyes more than we do any of our other physical senses. We usually feel that our active consciousness is more connected with visual sight than with anything else. The sight-centers in the brain are used more than any of the others, and this fact is proven by our own dreams, in which we “see” figures, but very seldom hear any spoken words. Again our memory consists mostly of visual symbols and stimuli. When we think of a person, we call up their image before our minds eye, this being a “memory image.” Now, as these parts of the mind and brain are so active, it is only an extension of this natural faculty of inducing memory-images, which enables us to see objects and figures in our practice of clairvoyance.

We only have to encourage this mental ability a little more than usual to carry it beyond the limitations of the physical senses; whereas, with the other senses, much less used, we might have to do a great deal more of this cultivation or forcing-process, in order to develop the corresponding spiritual abilities. Clairvoyance and similar faculties usually depend on the partial liberation or freeing of the spirit from the body, and the stimulation of the corresponding psychic sense-organs into a higher degree of activity, to permit their use. The following are a few exercises which will be helpful in developing this faculty of clairvoyance.

PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT EXERCISES
1. Sit in a comfortable chair in a semi-darkened room. Mentally construct (i.e., visualize) before you a tube, open at both ends. One end of this tube fits over your eyes, and the other end extends indefinitely out into space. Imagine that this tube is hollow and that you can see through it perfectly. Turn this tube in the direction of the house of a friend of yours; mentally go into a room and see if you can discover in it anyone present,and if so, who they are and what they look like. Note what you see carefully… including clothing or colors, or anything that stands out for you. You will be able to verify the next day how far your vision is correct. And remember to be playfull with this exercise, the more playful and open minded you are, the less stress will interfere with your progress.

2. Next, Construct the tube as before. At the other end of this tube, which you can imagine to be about one hundred yards long, you must endeavour to see clairvoyantly the face of a friend. Try to distinguish the features of their face, making them clearer and clearer. When you have done this, gradually pull it toward you by an effort of will, until it is only about two or three feet from you. It should then be perfectly clear and every feature distinguishable. When you have succeeded in visualizing this face so clearly that you see it as distinctly as you would as if that individual stood before you in life, your progress as a clairvoyant will have made great advances and you may then begin experiments in influencing this person at a distance, or sending messages back and forth while seeing his face before you, as explained. Use your power of WILL – so that he should do a certain thing, to think of you at a certain time or see your face float before him as he is busy with his daily activities. If you practice this persistently, you will ultimately achieve success, being able to communicate
